Mr. Jason Fleming is a Consultant ENT surgeon in the NHS at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is recognised as a leading international expert in cancers of the head and neck. He runs an active clinical and translational research programme in his role as a Reader in Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Liverpool. His private practice is run from The Sefton Suite at Aintree University Hospital and at Clatterbridge Private Clinic, where he runs a joint clinic with oncologist Dr. Ehab Ibrahim offering a fully comprehensive multidisciplinary service for both domestic and international clients seeking expert opinion. He is the first head and neck surgeon in Europe to have performed cancer resections on the new Da Vinci Single Port (SP) robotic platform.

My research
Proton beam
PROTIS is a Phase III trial examining the benefit of proton beam therapy for the treatment of sinonasal cancers, compared to existing radiotherapy techniques.
Surgical dressing
PuraBond® PROOF is a prospective randomised controlled trial to test a gel-based haemostatic wound dressing for use in transoral oral surgery to the mouth and throat. Expected to report in early 2025.
Robotic surgery
The UK’s first Phase II trial for the Versius robot for transoral surgery, designed and built by CMR Surgical, is being run at the Liverpool Head and Neck Centre at Aintree University Hospital.
Intraoperative imaging
Novel partnership funding has been awarded to a developing collaboration between Mr. Jason Fleming’s surgical team and the Department of Chemistry at University of Liverpool to develop new contrast dyes that will highlight tumours during robotic surgery to try and make the resection as precise as possible.
